Washington (Agencies): US President Donald Trump on Friday voiced alarm at the tense situation between Indian and Pakistan.
Talking to the reporters at his Oval Office, the US President said that it is very ‘dangerous situation’ between India and Pakistan and Washington would like to see it stop.
President Trump said his administration is involved in the process to de-escalate tension between Pakistan and India.
"India is looking at something very strong. India just lost almost 50 people with an attack. So I can understand that also," the US President said.
Responding to a question regarding relations with Pakistan, the US President said we have developed a better relationship with Pakistan over a short period of time.
President Trump said that the US may set up some meetings with Pakistan’s leadership and officials. He said “We are very much involved in that (process),” adding that the US was seeking talks with Pakistan.
Tensions have soared between the nuclear-armed rivals since a suicide attack last week killed 41 soldiers in Indian-occupied Kashmir, the deadliest attack in years.
Following the attack, India immediately blamed Pakistan and threatened a retaliatory attack. It also announced that it would launch a diplomatic offensive to isolate Pakistan in the international community.
Meanwhile, India has also withdrew the Most Favoured Nation status for Pakistan and imposed a 200 per cent customs duty on its goods.
Rejecting India's allegations, Prime Minister Imran Khan promised to conduct an investigation if New Delhi provided “actionable evidence” but also warned that Pakistan will "retaliate" if attacked.
On Friday, the Pakistan army also warned India to avoid "any misadventure", as it could have dangerous consequences.
Addressing a press conference in Rawalpindi, Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asif Ghafoor said that Pakistan does not want war, but prepared to respond any aggression.
