Islamabad (Web Desk): At least one policeman was martyred and several others were injured in a suicide blast in Sector I-10/4 of the federal capital on Friday.
According to law enforcers, police had stopped a "suspicious" car for checking when the driver, the suicide attacker, detonated.
Rescue and security services reached the blast site and cordoned off the area while an investigation into the incident had been launched.
The injured policemen have been shifted to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for treatment.
Security across the Rawalpindi district has been put on high alert and strict monitoring of all entry and exit points of the twin cities has been implemented. Authorities have issued instructions to provide strict security for Friday prayers.
Later in a tweet, the Islamabad police identified the martyred official as Head Constable Adeel Hussain.
In another post on Twitter, the Islamabad police said that diversions had been placed for both sides of traffic at Service Road East of Sector I-10/4.
The police advised the citizens to use Service Road West of Sector I-10/4 as an alternate and stay away from the blast site.
