New York (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in New York on Monday with a small Pakistani delegation to represent the country at the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Muhammad Ishaq Dar, along with Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi, is accompanying the premier during his visit.
PM Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to address the UN General Assembly on September 25, 2026.
In his address, the Prime Minister will present Pakistan’s position on the changing regional and global security situation, emphasizing the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
He will also highlight Pakistan’s diplomatic and mediation initiatives aimed at reducing tensions and strengthening peace and stability across the region.
The prime minister will also set out Pakistan’s priorities regarding major global concerns, including sustainable development, climate change, counterterrorism, Islamophobia and international economic challenges.
PM Shehbaz will further urge the international community to focus on the prolonged occupation and denial of the right to self-determination in Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and Palestine.
On the sidelines of the UNGA session, the prime minister will participate in a number of high-level discussions focusing on development, climate action and other significant international matters, where he will present Pakistan’s viewpoint.
PM Shehbaz will hold bilateral meetings with various world leaders and the UN Secretary-General during the session.
