Rawalpindi (Web Desk): A Rawalpindi anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Wednesday once again issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Aleema Khan, sister of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former premier Imran Khan, in cases related to the party’s protest on November 26, 2024.
ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah, who presided over the hearing, ordered the warrant for the fourth time after Aleema failed to attend proceedings despite repeated court notices.
The court also confiscated her Rs100,000 surety bonds and issued a show-cause notice to her guarantor, Umar Sharif, directing him to submit his response by October 24.
Additionally, Aleema Khan was instructed to furnish two new surety bonds worth Rs1 million each.
The judge expressed strong displeasure over misleading reports submitted by police officials, describing them as fabricated. Consequently, SP Rao Muhammad Saad and DSP Naeem were issued show-cause notices for contempt of court and summoned to appear in person on October 24.
The court questioned how Aleema could be considered missing while her statements to the media outside Adiala Jail were being broadcast regularly.
After issuing its directives, the court adjourned the hearing until October 24.
The case is linked to the PTI's protest of November 26 last year, when party activists entered Islamabad despite restrictions on public gatherings and clashed with police near D-Chowk.
Law enforcement used tear gas to disperse the demonstrators as tensions escalated, bringing the three-day protest to an abrupt halt.
The demonstration had been organized to pressure the government for the release of Imran Khan, who has remained in prison since August 2023, facing multiple cases including charges of corruption and terrorism following his ouster from office through a no-confidence vote in April 2022.
