World Water Day observed

Islamabad (Web Desk): World Water Day was observed on Saturday across the globe including Pakistan to raise awareness about the need for sustainable water management and conservation.

This year the theme of the day is 'Glacier Preservation'.

Glaciers are critical to life and their rapid melting is threatening animal and plant life.

Meanwhile, the annual earth hour will be observed in Pakistan tonight like other countries of the world, the Radio Pakistan reported.

It encourages the individuals, communities and businesses to give an hour for earth be switching off non-essential electric light for an hour from 8:30 to 9:30pm

In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) designated March 22 as World Water Day, following the recommendation of the UN Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992. 

Since then, the day has been marked annually with different themes, highlighting various aspects of the global water crisis.
