Islamabad: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Thursday announced to hold fresh intra-party elections on March 3.
According to the PTI’s election schedule, candidates intending to contest the intra-party polls can submit their nomination papers on February 23 and 24, with the scrutiny being carried out on February 25.
Meanwhile, the final decisions on nomination papers will be announced on February 27 and the polling will be held on March 3 at the party’s central office as well as provincial secretariats.
Earlier, PTI spokesperson Raoof Hasan had announced holding intra-party polls to elect the chairman, central and provincial organising bodies.
Last month, the SC on Saturday set aside the Peshawar High Court’s (PHC) order and upheld the Election Commission of Pakistan's (ECP) decision, depriving the PTI of its iconic electoral symbol of ‘bat’.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa and comprising Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar and Justice Musarrat Hilali heard the ECP’s appeal.
The court in its decision declared that the PTI was not entitled to retain the symbol of ‘bat’ as it could not prove the holding of intra-party elections.
