Lahore (Web Desk): Higher Education Commission (HEC) Chairman Professor Dr Niaz Ahmad Akhtar has said that the primary purpose of educational institutions is not limited to imparting knowledge, but also includes promoting research, creativity and innovation.
He said Pakistan offers tremendous opportunities for its young population, but their potential must be directed and utilised effectively to turn those opportunities into meaningful progress.
Speaking at “SEE Pakistan 2026” event organised by Association of Private Sector Universities of Pakistan (APSUP) in Lahore, he said creativity and innovation are nurtured through universities, making it essential for higher education institutions to create an environment where students can develop and showcase their creative abilities.
Professor Dr Niaz noted that the education sector is undergoing rapid transformation and institutions must adapt to meet emerging demands.
The HEC chairman said that the students need access not only to modern education but also to research opportunities, creative thinking and practical experiences, all of which are essential for preparing them to meet the challenges of a changing world.
Professor Dr Niaz stressed that educational institutions have a crucial role in developing and strengthening students’ abilities.
He said universities that provide young people with appropriate platforms and opportunities to utilise their skills can enable them to make a meaningful contribution to the country’s development and economic growth.
Dr Niaz said Pakistan’s youth possess considerable talent and have access to vast opportunities within the country.
The HEC chairman emphasised that educational institutions, industry and other relevant sectors must further strengthen their collaboration and links to ensure that the abilities of young people are effectively channelled towards national development.
