Lahore (Web Desk): Shahrez Azeem, the son of Aleema Khan and nephew of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, has been taken into custody in connection with the events of May 9, authorities confirmed on Friday.

According to Syed Zeeshan Raza, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Investigation, Shahrez was a wanted individual in ongoing probes related to that day’s violent incidents.

He stated that those involved in activities deemed harmful to the state should not expect leniency. Shahrez is expected to be presented before a court later in the day.

The confirmation of his arrest follows serious accusations made by Aleema Khan, who had earlier claimed that her son had been forcibly taken from their residence.

According to her account, four armed and masked individuals entered their home through the kitchen. At the time, Shahrez was reportedly upstairs with his wife and father. She further alleged that the intruders harassed the family’s drivers and staff before taking Shahrez away.

A spokesperson for PTI echoed Aleema Khan’s claims, asserting that the men stormed into Shahrez’s bedroom in front of his two young children and physically assaulted him before detaining him. The party described the event as a forceful abduction rather than a lawful arrest.

In a surprising development, conflicting statements have emerged from within the official ranks.

Prime Minister's political adviser Rana Sanaullah had earlier relayed a statement from Lahore’s top police official, who denied that any such arrest had taken place.
