New York (Web Desk): Pakistan has urged the global community to guarantee unrestricted delivery of humanitarian aid, reinforce accountability for violations, and reaffirm its commitment to international law, particularly in relation to Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
The call was made by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, while speaking during an open debate of the United Nations Security Council focused on the protection of civilians in armed conflict.
Focusing on Palestine, he underlined the severe and ongoing suffering faced by civilians, stressing the urgent need to ensure safe, rapid, and unhindered access for humanitarian assistance.
The Pakistani envoy further called for accountability over violations and reiterated that the Palestinian people must be allowed to exercise their right to self-determination and achieve statehood.
Turning to IIOJK, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar said that the dispute has remained on the Security Council’s agenda for more than seven decades.
The Pakistani envoy noted that civilians in the region continue to live under conditions of foreign occupation, facing heavy militarisation, arbitrary detentions, restrictions on basic freedoms, efforts aimed at demographic alteration, and denial of their internationally recognised right to self-determination.
He reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for initiatives that uphold international law, promote accountability, advance peaceful resolution of disputes, and safeguard civilians in conflict situations, adding that civilians are not collateral damage but the very people the UN was created to save.
