Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Central Information Secretary Raoof Hasan was injured in an attack by transgender persons in Islamabad on Tuesday.
According to details, Hasan had just finished recording a segment for a private TV channel and was leaving the premises when the incident occurred. Four transgender individuals launched the assault.
The assailants used a blade to target the PTI leader, inflicting injuries on his face. Following the attack, the perpetrators managed to flee the scene.
Video footage shared by the party showed Hasan bleeding from the face.
The PTI leader has been transferred to a hospital for medical treatment.
In a post on X, the PTI wrote “Very shameful and reprehensible!!” “This reprehensible act of violence is an assault on free speech, democracy, and the rule of law.
“Such shameful tactics will not deter Raoof Hasan or the PTI from our cause. Attempts to intimidate or silence us will only strengthen our resolve to fight for a just and equitable society,” the party said, adding that he was attacked outside the office of a private media channel.
Meanwhile, in response to the assault on Hasan, the PTI staged a walkout from the Senate.
Prior to the party’s walkout, Opposition Leader in the Senate Shibli Faraz, during the session, condemned the attack with PTI lawmakers resorting to sloganeering against the government.
Responding to Faraz, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar said the incident will be treated in line with the law.
“It is the government’s responsibility to ensure that citizens are treated in line with the law,” the law.
He asked the PTI leaders to register a case assuring that action would be taken in line with the law.
Later, in a statement, Islamabad police spokesperson said that the PTI leader was attacked with a blade outside the office of a private TV channel.
“Hasan was attacked on the face with a blade by transgenders according to eyewitnesses,” the statement said.
It added that the police were present on the spot and collecting evidence. “Strict action will be taken against the transgenders who have done this,” the statement said.
