Lahore (Web Desk): Polling for a vacant Senate seat commenced on Monday morning in the Punjab Assembly at the scheduled time of 9:00am.
According to an official spokesperson, the voting will proceed without any interruption until 4:00pm. The Punjab Assembly chamber has been designated as the polling station for this electoral process, which is being supervised by Punjab Election Commissioner Sharif Ullah.
The Punjab Assembly comprises 371 seats, though currently, two remain unoccupied. To claim victory in the Senate election, a candidate must secure around 184.5 votes.
This particular seat became vacant following the passing of Senator Sajid Mir.
Hafiz Abdul Karim is contesting the seat as the nominee of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), while the opposition has put forward Mehar Abdul Sattar as its candidate.
Meanwhile, two independent hopefuls, Eijaz Hussain Minhas and Khadija Siddiqui, are also in the running.
