New Delhi / Washington (Web Desk): Indian citizens are facing growing difficulties abroad, largely due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mismanagement of foreign policy and glaring lapses in the education sector.
According to Indian newspaper The Economic Times, the country’s fake degree scandal has become a major factor behind tighter restrictions on American visas and stricter evaluation of educational credentials.
The publication reports that admissions of Indian students into the United States (US) universities have fallen sharply, with numbers dropping by as much as 75 percent as a result of these new limitations.
It says that securing a US visa has become increasingly challenging for Indians, and prospects for studying or working in the US are now more restricted than ever.
Rising pressure from US authorities has also led to an increase in visa rejections.
As per The Economic Times report, nearly 3,800 people were deported from the US last year, with Indian nationals accounting for the largest portion of those affected.
