Islamabad (Web Desk): An earthquake of 4.5 magnitude hit northern parts of the country on Saturday, unsettling residents of Islamabad and Rawalpindi as noticeable tremors rattled buildings across the twin cities.
The tremors were also felt in Swabi, Haripur, Khanpur and adjoining localities.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) confirmed that the quake registered 4.5 on the Richter scale and said its epicentre was situated in the northern region. Television reports indicated that the tremors persisted for several seconds.
Eyewitnesses described how residential and commercial structures swayed during the brief jolt, prompting many people to move out into open spaces as a safety measure.
Experts explained that earthquakes of this intensity frequently occur in northern Pakistan because of ongoing tectonic shifts in the Himalayan zone.
They advised citizens to remain composed and adhere to standard safety guidelines in the event of such tremors.
