Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to take decisive measures against tax evaders and ensure tax compliance across the country.

In a crucial meeting held on Saturday, the premier was briefed on ongoing efforts to improve revenue collection, particularly through the adoption of advanced technology. He emphasized that modernizing the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) with technological tools is one of the government’s primary goals.

The discussion also focused on the implementation of video analytics in the sugar industry, a step that the prime minister believes will not only enhance tax collection but also help in eliminating hoarding and stabilizing prices.

PM Shehbaz stressed that one of the government’s top priorities is to ensure that sugar remains available to the public at reasonable prices.

He further instructed the authorities to keep a close watch on sugar stocks to avoid any disruption in the supply chain.

In addition to targeting the sugar industry, the Prime Minister urged the FBR to take firm action against tax underreporting and evasion, particularly by sugar mills.

He highlighted that ongoing efforts to digitize the FBR's operations would result in substantial financial gains for the national treasury.

Sharif also called for the rapid completion of the FBR's value chain digitization and the swift expansion of video analytics to other key industries such as cement and tobacco.

The meeting was attended by senior government officials, including Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, and Minister of State for Finance Ali Pervaiz Malik.
