Lahore (Web Desk): Today marks the 42nd anniversary of the passing of Hafeez Jalandhari, the distinguished poet behind Pakistan’s national anthem.

Born on January 14, 1900, in Jalandhar, Punjab, which was then part of British India, he later moved to Lahore after the partition.

Jalandhari is best remembered for penning the lyrics of the national anthem of Pakistan in 1952, a composition that remains a powerful symbol of the country’s identity.

Hafeez Jalandhari’s contribution extended far beyond the national anthem. He was an ardent supporter of the Pakistan Movement, using his words to advocate for the creation of the new nation.

His poetic works also included a number of stirring patriotic songs, especially during the 1965 Indo-Pakistani War, which motivated and united the people of Pakistan in times of conflict.

In addition to his role in shaping national pride, Jalandhari composed the anthem of Azad Kashmir, "Watan Hamara Azad Kashmir."

His literary and patriotic services earned him the prestigious Hilal-e-Imtiaz and Pride of Performance awards from the Government of Pakistan.

Hafeez Jalandhari passed away on this day in 1982 in Lahore, leaving behind a lasting legacy.

At the time of his death, he was 82 years old, and his work continues to resonate with the people of Pakistan, cementing his place in the nation's cultural and patriotic history.
