Tokyo (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif held a significant meeting with Tokyo’s Deputy Governor Akiko Matsumoto in Japan’s capital, Tokyo. The discussion focused on mutual interests, particularly the promotion of women’s leadership, urban development, and enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Deputy Governor Matsumoto warmly congratulated Maryam Nawaz on becoming Punjab’s first female Chief Minister. In response, the Chief Minister also extended her congratulations to Matsumoto on being the first female Deputy Governor of Tokyo, appreciating her 35 years of dedicated service within the Japanese government.
Both leaders recognized women’s leadership as a shared value between Pakistan and Japan and committed to strengthening this role in the future.
The meeting also covered topics such as modern infrastructure, renewable energy, clean water supply, and eco-friendly initiatives as key areas of collaboration between Punjab and Japan.
Maryam Nawaz praised Tokyo’s urban management system and expressed her desire to expand the “Suthra Punjab” (Clean Punjab) initiative, modeled after Tokyo’s “Clean Authority” project.
She highlighted the Punjab government’s revolutionary steps towards women empowerment, environmental protection, and the provision of modern urban facilities.
Describing Japan as a perfect blend of progress and ethical values, the Chief Minister emphasized that adopting Japanese experiences could accelerate effective development in Punjab.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Pakistan-Japan relations.
