California (Web Desk): WhatsApp is reportedly testing a new paid subscription model called “WhatsApp Plus,” currently available to a limited number of users on the beta version for Android devices.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the new feature set includes several premium functions that will only be accessible through a monthly subscription. These features are part of a paywall system being gradually introduced in the beta testing phase.

As per WhatsApp’s help center information, subscribers of WhatsApp Plus will gain access to premium stickers, along with options to customize app themes and icons.

In addition, users will reportedly be able to pin up to 20 chats, set premium ringtones for specific contacts, and create customized chat lists. More advanced features are also expected to be added under the premium plan in future updates.

Although the official pricing has not yet been confirmed, the report suggests that in Pakistan the subscription may be priced at around Rs229 per month.

The report further clarifies that Meta will keep core WhatsApp features such as messaging, voice calling, and end-to-end encryption free of charge, and these will not be included in any paid package.

Alongside WhatsApp Plus, Meta is also reportedly testing a similar subscription model for Instagram, offering additional premium features to users.

Users interested in the paid version may also be offered a one-month free trial in the near future, according to the report.
