New York Web Desk): Pakistan secured membership to three key United Nations (UN) bodies in the recent elections.

Pakistan has been elected to the three key UN bodies including the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, the Commission on the Status of Women and the Commission on Population and Development.

These commissions play a pivotal role in enhancing international cooperation on various social and economic issues.

“Pakistan’s re-election is a resounding validation of its meaningful engagement within the United Nations as well as its contributions in the areas of international economic cooperation and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” said a spokesperson for Pakistan's Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

Pakistan will assume the membership of the three Commissions starting from 1 January 2022.

The spokesperson said Pakistan will continue to foster international cooperation for combating transnational organized crime and improving efficiency and fairness of criminal justice administration system, promote gender equality and women empowerment and support initiatives aimed at assisting countries in developing their capacity to produce and analyze population data and information.
