California (Web Desk): Snapchat users are reporting a significant outage this morning, leaving millions unable to access key features of the social media platform. The disruption appears to coincide with a larger-scale issue affecting Amazon Web Services (AWS), which powers many online services.
According to reports from DownDetector, complaints about Snapchat's unresponsiveness began to spike around 3 a.m. ET / 7 a.m. BST, with the number of outage reports soaring to over 22,000. Affected users are unable to log in, send messages, or load content.
Some users have also reported being completely locked out of their accounts, receiving the error message: "Due to repeated failed attempts or other unusual activity, your access to Snapchat is temporarily disabled. Please try again."
The outage is believed to be connected to the widespread disruptions currently affecting AWS, which hosts Snapchat and other major platforms, including Ring, Coinbase, Roblox, and Fortnite. These services are also experiencing outages as a result of the AWS issues.
