Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has praised the contributions of minorities in Pakistan, reaffirming that the country is a land of peace, harmony, and tolerance. In his address during a Diwali celebration, the Prime Minister emphasized that there is no place for hatred, extremism, or terrorism in Pakistan. He also underscored the government’s commitment to ensuring the religious freedom and welfare of minorities.

Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif noted that the participation of both minority and majority religious and political leaders at the Diwali celebration was a true reflection of Pakistan’s vision of inclusivity. He recalled the founding father of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s historic speech on August 11, where he had assured that all religious communities in Pakistan would be free to practice their faiths without fear or discrimination.

The Prime Minister expressed pride in the significant role that minority communities have played in Pakistan’s history, from its creation to its defense. He stressed that the majority of Pakistanis have always stood in solidarity with minorities, condemning any acts of injustice or discrimination against them.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted the government’s steps to support minorities, including the approval of the Interfaith Harmony Policy by the Federal Cabinet. He also mentioned the passage of the National Minorities Commission Bill, which strengthens the legal framework for the protection of minority rights.

In addition, the Prime Minister shared that minority students are receiving scholarships for education from primary to university levels, and a 5% quota has been reserved for them in government jobs. He further noted that minorities are included in various programs under the Prime Minister’s Youth Program and are granted holidays to celebrate their religious festivals.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to peace, the Prime Minister stated that the entire nation stands united with the armed forces in the fight against terrorism and extremism. “Pakistan is a land of peace, harmony, and tolerance, where there is no place for terrorism or hatred,” he said.

The Prime Minister also celebrated Diwali with the Hindu community by cutting a Diwali cake at the Prime Minister’s House in Islamabad. The Hindu community expressed their gratitude for the event and the government’s ongoing support in promoting interfaith harmony.
