California (Web Desk): Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud services division of Amazon, experienced a significant technical failure on Monday, which caused widespread disruptions to numerous well-known websites and apps around the world.
According to a report by Reuters, AWS confirmed the outage on its status website, noting that the US-East-1 region, which serves the eastern United States, experienced a sharp increase in error rates and latency across various services.
The disruption affected several high-profile platforms, including Epic Games’ Fortnite, Snapchat, Signal, and financial applications such as Venmo, Robinhood, and Chime.
Arvind Srinivas, CEO of AI startup Perplexity, took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce that their service was completely down due to the AWS malfunction.
AWS provides cloud computing, data storage, and other digital services to companies, government agencies, and individual users worldwide. The failure in its servers caused a ripple effect, impacting all platforms that rely on its infrastructure.
According to outage tracking website DownDetector, popular services like Amazon.com, Prime Video, Alexa, and PayPal’s subsidiary Venmo were also affected by the technical glitch.
