Islamabad (Web Desk): World Children’s Day is being observed today (Thursday) across the globe including Pakistan to acknowledge and celebrate the rights, voices, and well-being of children everywhere.
This year’s themes, “My day, my rights” and “For every child, every right,” stress the importance of allowing children to express themselves freely and affirming that their rights deserve unwavering respect.
The day brings attention to issues that directly affect young lives, such as safety, education, and access to healthcare, highlighting that children, like adults, are entitled to fundamental human rights while also requiring protections that address their unique needs and developmental stages.
Observed every year on November 20, World Children’s Day is also a reminder of two historic United Nations (UN) milestones: the adoption of the Declaration of the Rights of the Child in 1959 and the Convention on the Rights of the Child in 1989. These landmark agreements outline the basic rights necessary for children to grow in a safe and dignified environment, forming the foundation for child protection worldwide.
The day serves as a call to action for societies to remain vigilant and dedicated in creating a secure and supportive world where every child can thrive, reminding adults that nurturing the next generation requires collective effort and continuous attention.
