Islamabad (Web Desk): Marking United Nations (UN) Chinese Language Day, President Asif Ali Zardari has urged greater emphasis on making Chinese language education more accessible and systematically organised, saying it is essential to meet practical needs and further enhance cooperation between Pakistan and China.
In his message issued on the occasion, the president observed that the day reflects the rising value of language awareness in a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected.
He noted that across Pakistan, the desire to learn Chinese has been consistently growing, particularly within higher education institutions where structured academic programmes are now firmly established.
The President highlighted that universities such as University of Karachi, University of the Punjab and National University of Modern Languages are providing organised learning pathways, including tiered instruction, certification options and exposure to Chinese culture.
Referring to developments in Sindh, the president pointed out that the Confucius Institute at the University of Karachi has emerged as a significant centre for Chinese language teaching, offering well-structured courses delivered by both local educators and native speakers.
He added that comparable efforts in other regions are also helping broaden opportunities for students and working professionals who want to acquire practical proficiency in the language.
President Zardari further explained that such expansion also includes targeted training for individuals in public service roles who frequently interact with Chinese nationals, enabling clearer communication and more efficient coordination in their duties.
He remarked that for many young people, learning Chinese is increasingly seen as a gateway to academic prospects, trade links and technical partnerships.
The president added that it serves as a valuable skill, opening doors to collaboration with Chinese firms, scholarship opportunities and joint initiatives across a range of sectors.
