COVID-19: Pakistan reports 5,445 new cases 137 deaths in last 24 hours

Lahore/Quetta/Karachi/Peshawar (Staff Report/Agencies): The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 766,882 on Tuesday after 5,445 new coronavirus cases surfaced in the country during the last 24 hours.

Overall 273,466 cases were confirmed in Sindh, 273,566 in Punjab, 107,309 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 21,000 in Balochistan, 70,609 in Islamabad 5,191 in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and 15,741 in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

According to the government's COVID-19 portal, the death toll related to coronavirus has reached to 16,453 with 137 fatalities reported during the last 24 hours.

Over the last twenty four hours, total number of recovered COVID-19 patients across the country reached 667,131 after another 4,286 virus recoveries were reported.

Meanwhile, head of World Health Organization (WHO) Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on Monday said that the world has the means to bring the global Covid-19 pandemic under control in the coming months.

"We have the tools to bring this pandemic under control in a matter of months, if we apply them consistently and equitably," the head of WHO, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, said.

However, he also expressed concern over the "alarming rate" at which Covid-19 is spreading in those aged 25-59 worldwide, possibly due to much more contagious variants.

"It took nine months to reach one million deaths; 4 months to reach 2 million, and 3 months to reach 3 million."

It is pertinent to mention that the global coronavirus cases have reportedly surpassed 141.057 million and death toll tops 3.015 million.
