Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan’s national space agency, SUPARCO, has issued a climate warning predicting that 2027 could become the hottest year on record, with temperatures expected to reach unprecedented levels across parts of the country.
According to the warning, Pakistan may face intense heatwaves and prolonged dry spells next year, while the effects of the La Niña weather system are expected to begin emerging toward the end of the current year.
The agency cautioned that accelerated glacier melting in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan could increase the risk of flooding in vulnerable regions.
It further warned that desert and coastal districts of Sindh and Balochistan are likely to experience extreme temperatures, raising concerns about water shortages in several arid areas.
SUPARCO also noted that excessive heat and untimely rainfall could adversely affect major crops, including wheat, cotton and rice, potentially creating challenges for the country’s agricultural sector.
