Peshawar (Web Desk): Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Friday presented budget for the financial year 2026-27, outlining a total outlay of Rs2.17 trillion alongside an anticipated fiscal gap of Rs48 billion, according to official budget papers.
At the start of his speech, Afridi stated that all Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers in the provincial assembly had collectively agreed to proceed with the budget presentation.
The budget’s presentation had earlier been uncertain, with reports suggesting that the provincial administration had linked the process to a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan, who is currently imprisoned.
During budget speech, CM Afridi highlighted that the budget carries a Rs48 billion deficit, but insisted the provincial government would not rely on external borrowing to bridge the gap. He maintained that the shortfall would be covered through internal provincial resources.
The KP CM said the financial plan aligns with the Federal Board of Revenue’s tax collection projection of Rs15.2 trillion.
Turning to the broader fiscal plan, he said the government’s new approach was focused on transitioning from development-oriented policies toward long-term progress and prosperity.
The FY2026-27 budget, titled “Khushaal Pakistan,” aims to ensure that economic gains reach ordinary citizens.
According to the budget figures, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is expected to receive Rs1.59 trillion in federal transfers during the upcoming fiscal year, while provincial revenue targets have been set at Rs182.4 billion.
Overall, total income is projected at Rs2.1 trillion against total expenditures of Rs2.17 trillion.
