Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan and Iran have agreed to de-escalate the situation.
The understanding to this effect came during telephonic conversation of Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani with his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, today.
According to the Foreign Office (FO), underscoring the close brotherly relations between Pakistan and Iran, the foreign minister expressed Pakistan's desire to work with Iran based on spirit of mutual trust and cooperation.
FM Jilani stressed that respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty must underpin this cooperation.
The two foreign ministers agreed that working level cooperation and close coordination on counter terrorism and other aspects of mutual concern should be strengthened.
The return of Ambassadors of the two countries to their respective Capitals was also discussed.
This was the second telephonic interaction between the two foreign ministers this week, as earlier Jilani had received a call from his Iranian counterpart on Wednesday after Iran had violated Pakistan’s airspace.
Earlier today, in a telephonic conversation with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkiye Hakan Fidan, FM Jilani emphasized that Pakistan has no interest or desire in escalating tension with Iran.
Both the dignitaries discussed the ongoing developments between Pakistan and Iran.
Sharing Pakistan’s perspective on recent developments, FM Jilani said that Pakistan’s Operation Marg Bar Sarmachar was aimed at terrorist camps inside Iran.
In a “highly complex” and “specifically targeted” precision military strikes, Pakistan on Thursday morning had hit the Pakistan-origin terrorists’ hideouts in Siestan-o-Baluchistan province of Iran, killing a number of them.
Pakistan’s action came a day after the Iranian side violated Pakistan’s airspace which was called a “blatant breach of Pakistan’s sovereignty” and the violation of the international law.
However, the diplomats of Pakistan and Iran on Thursday night also engaged in “some positive exchanges” with both sides stressing for positive dialogue and restoration of trust.
Foreign Office (FO) spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch had also confirmand the development and commented on her personal X account calling the conversation “some positive exchanges.”
