Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari on Wednesday appealed to opposition parties to end their boycott of parliamentary standing committees, stressing that their presence and contribution were necessary for parliament to operate effectively.

Bilawal made the statement while talking to journalists at the Parliament House after holding meetings with Mahmood Khan Achakzai, opposition leader in the National Assembly, and Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, opposition leader in the Senate.

The PPP chairman said his party had always attached importance to the parliamentary system and expressed hope that the opposition would review its decision to stay away from standing committees.

He maintained that an effective parliamentary system could not function properly without active committees.

“For parliament to be functional, standing committees must be functional,” he said, underlining the significance of the opposition's participation in the committee process.

Bilawal said the PPP had reached out to opposition parties because it wanted political forces to maintain communication and resolve issues through dialogue.

He further urged the opposition to use parliament as a forum for pursuing electoral reforms, saying parties seeking changes to the electoral system should return to the parliamentary process and work collectively to improve it.
