Islamabad (Web Desk): An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter scale was felt across Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and various areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday morning, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
The seismic activity was recorded at 10:20am, with its epicentre located in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at a depth of 190 kilometres beneath the earth’s surface.
The tremors reached multiple regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), including Peshawar, Mansehra, Swat, Chitral, and Abbottabad, where residents reported experiencing light to moderate shaking. However, officials confirmed that no casualties or damage to infrastructure have been reported so far.
This latest quake comes shortly after a 5.5-magnitude tremor rattled northern parts of the country during the first week of August.
That earlier event also originated in the Hindu Kush area but at a slightly shallower depth of 114 kilometres. At the time, people in several towns and cities — including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Charsadda, Karak, and regions within Azad Jammu and Kashmir — felt the jolt.
The Hindu Kush mountain belt is known for frequent seismic disturbances due to its tectonic setting, which often causes tremors across northern Pakistan and surrounding areas.
