Tremors felt in KP, parts of Punjab as 5.9-magnitude earthquake strikes Afghanistan

Islamabad (Web Desk): An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale struck several cities across Pakistan on Saturday morning, causing widespread panic among residents.

The tremors were felt around 11:48am in several cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Peshawar, Abbottabad, Mardan, Nowshera, Swat, Chitral, Haripur, Mansehra, Attock, Malakand, Shangla, Muzaffarabad, and many other parts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre in Islamabad, the earthquake originated from the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region, with a depth of 94 kilometers beneath the surface.

Although the quake triggered fear and led people to rush out of buildings, reciting verses from the Holy Quran in distress, no casualties or damage to property have been reported so far.

Emergency services have been monitoring the situation, and residents are advised to remain cautious in case of aftershocks.
