California (Web Desk): Apple has introduced fast charging in its new iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max models, which can charge up to 50% in just 20 minutes, while the iPhone Air will provide the same charging level in 30 minutes.
However, there is a significant catch: this fast charging is only possible when using the company’s new 40-watt Dynamic Power Adapter, which temporarily delivers up to 60 watts of power.
This new charger operates on the Adjustable Voltage Supply (AVS) protocol, which is different from the Programmable Power Supply (PPS) protocol used by older chargers.
This means that your old USB chargers that support PPS will not be able to fast charge the new iPhones. Therefore, users will have to spend around $39 to buy the new charger.
Interestingly, this new AVS charger is not more efficient for older PPS devices, effectively forcing consumers to purchase a separate charger.
