Islamabad (Web Desk): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif called on relevant authorities to accelerate efforts against tax evaders, stressing that national progress depends on everyone fulfilling their fiscal obligations.
Speaking during a meeting in Islamabad to assess the country's overall economic situation, he emphasized that as Pakistan moves toward greater economic stability, those who evade taxes, along with those who aid them, will be held accountable and face legal consequences.
PM Shehbaz highlighted several key achievements of the government, expressing satisfaction with the sharp decline in inflation—from 38% to 7%—and the reduction in the central bank's interest rate from 22% to 15%.
These changes, he noted, would stimulate business activity and generate more job opportunities across the country.
He also pointed to the growing confidence among foreign investors, which, combined with rising foreign exchange reserves, reflects an improving economic outlook.
This improvement has been driven by higher exports and record remittance inflows, the premier added.
PM Shehbaz also commended the Punjab government for its transformative reforms in the agricultural sector, which have had a positive impact on the economy.
The meeting was briefed on the current state of inflation, the ongoing crackdown on tax evasion, and updates from discussions with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) delegation, which are key to securing continued financial support for the country.
