Lahore (Web Desk): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Monday appointed Aqib Javed, the former fast bowler, as the interim head coach of the Pakistan men's cricket team, with the role set to run until the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
Aqib, who will also maintain his position as a senior member of the National Selection Committee, is expected to take on additional responsibilities following the conclusion of the 8-team tournament.
In the meantime, the PCB has launched the search for a permanent white-ball head coach, with the aim of finalizing the appointment by the conclusion of the Champions Trophy (February 19 to March 9, 2025).
This decision comes after Gary Kirsten resigned from the role.
Jason Gillespie, the head coach for red-ball cricket, will continue in his position and oversee the Pakistan team during the upcoming two-Test series in South Africa.
Pakistan's schedule includes three ODIs and three T20Is in Zimbabwe from November 24 to December 5, followed by a white-ball series in South Africa from December 10-22.
Prior to the Champions Trophy, Pakistan will host New Zealand and South Africa in an ODI triangular series, slated for February 8-14, 2025.
