Islamabad (Web Desk): Fifteen designated banks on Monday started receiving Hajj applications from those applying for the government Hajj scheme.

According to Pakistan's Ministry of Religious Affairs, the intending pilgrims are required to deposit an initial payment of Rs 200,000 along with their application forms.

A total of 179,210 pilgrims will have the opportunity to perform Hajj in 2025, with 89,605 spots reserved for those applying through the government scheme. Additionally, 5,000 seats are available under a special sponsorship program, which will be managed on a first-come, first-served basis.

These sponsored applicants will be exempted from the ballot but must pay the full amount in US dollars through a designated banking channel.

The government’s Hajj package covers essential services such as airfare, accommodation, food, training, and vaccination.

Pilgrims will also be provided with Maktab services for the duration of their stay. There are two package options available: a long package that spans 38 to 42 days, and a shorter option of 20 to 25 days.

Applications must be submitted by December 3.

The final selection for the Hajj pilgrimage will be determined through a ballot on December 6, 2024, after which successful applicants will be required to make a second payment of Rs 400,000 by February 1-10, 2025.

The ministry has outlined certain eligibility criteria for the applicants. Women will be allowed to perform Hajj without a Mahram as long as they are part of a group.

However, individuals with serious medical conditions or those who are full-term pregnant are ineligible to participate.

Children under the age of 12 will also not be permitted to accompany their parents for the pilgrimage.
