Karachi (Web Desk): The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee on Sunday confirmed the sighting of the Zilhaj crescent, officially announcing that Eid-ul -Adha will be observed on May 27 across Pakistan.
The declaration came after the committee gathered in Karachi to review moon-sighting reports, while zonal committees simultaneously held meetings in Islamabad, Lahore, Quetta and Peshawar.
Speaking to the media after the session, Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabeer Azad said weather conditions remained mostly favourable for moon sighting throughout the country, although a few regions experienced cloudy skies.
He stated that credible testimonies of the crescent sighting were received from Karachi and various other locations in Sindh, along with reports from Mardan, Rawalpindi, Peshawar and several additional areas.
Earlier this week, Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) had also indicated that Eid-ul-Azha was likely to fall on May 27, noting that the new moon of Zilhajj 1447 AH was expected to emerge on May 17 at 1:01am.
