Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that ahead of the federal budget, a number of baseless rumours were circulated, including claims about the possible repeal of the 18th Constitutional Amendment and the discontinuation of the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP).
The PPP chief clarified that the share of provinces in the National Finance Commission (NFC) award remains fully protected and there is no intention to impose additional financial burden on the provinces.
He said that the federal government has also assured that provincial financial resources will not be undermined.
Bilawal congratulated the president, prime minister and the Field Marshal on initiatives aimed at regional peace, while noting that Pakistan continues to face serious security challenges along the borders with Afghanistan and India.
He said statements such as “Operation Sindoor 2” and other attempts to escalate tensions from the Indian side are concerning, adding that efforts to damage the Kashmir cause are regrettable.
The PPP chief further stated that Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) should not be viewed through the same lens as Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
He said that external elements, particularly India, are involved in attempts to disturb peace in Balochistan, while expressing concern over alleged links between Israel and India in activities directed against Pakistan.
Bilawal added that the arrest of an alleged agent of India’s Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) from Balochistan serves as evidence of ongoing hostile activities, stressing that strict action against those taking the law into their own hands is necessary.
On the situation in AJK, he said protests should not escalate to a point where national interests are harmed, emphasizing that all issues should be resolved through dialogue and negotiation.
The PPP chairman also underscored the need to take practical steps for the rights and welfare of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
Referring to social protection, Bilawal described the BISP as a key pillar of national security and welfare, arguing that instead of reducing it, the programme should be expanded further to help alleviate poverty.
The PPP chief stressed the importance of transparency in matters related to the petroleum levy and provincial financial shares, noting that provinces are already bearing significant fiscal pressures.
