Caretaker govt assures ECP of all possible assistance to ensure free, fair elections

Islamabad (Web Desk): Caretaker Minister for Information and Broadcasting Murtaza Solangi on Friday said that the interim govt has assured the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) of all possible assistance and cooperation to ensure free and fair elections in the country.

Briefing media in Islamabad about decisions taken by the federal cabinet, said the interim government is committed to comply with the directions of the ECP for transferring and posting of any individual, necessary to hold free and fair elections.

The minister said he held a meeting with Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja and conveyed him the will and resolve of the cabinet in ensuring transparent polls in the country.

Murtaza Solangi further expressed resolve and determination of the caretakers to abide by their oath and discharge their responsibilities as per law and the Constitution.

He said revamping economy is the top priority of the caretaker government.

Condemning the Jaranwala incident, the information minister said that the state of Pakistan is standing by its minority communities as all citizens have equal rights as per law and the Constitution of the country. He said the cabinet emphasized on promoting Sufism in the country.

Meanwhile, the ECP commenced the delimitation process, citing the digital census notification issued by the Council of Common Interest (CCI) on August 5 as the basis for its action.

As the delimitation process will end in the month of December, the general elections cannot be held within 90 days, in November, as per Article 224 of the Constitution.
