Rawalpindi (Web Desk): Karachi Kings stormed into the playoffs of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 with a dominant display against Peshawar Zalmi at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Saturday, powered by a dazzling partnership between David Warner and James Vince.
Sent in to bat first, the Kings recovered from an early jolt and posted a mammoth 237 for 4, riding on a record-setting second-wicket stand that turned the tide firmly in their favour.
The contest got off to a dramatic start when Zalmi’s Luke Wood struck with the very first ball of the match, removing debutant Ben McDermott for a golden duck.
However, the early breakthrough did little to slow the Kings’ momentum. Warner and Vince joined forces and counterpunched in style, crafting a stunning 162-run alliance that not only steadied the innings but completely flipped the pressure back onto Peshawar.
Vince was in sublime touch, stroking 11 boundaries and a six on his way to an impressive 72 off 42 balls before falling to Ali Raza in the 15th over.
A brief glimmer of hope came for Zalmi in the next over when Wood returned to dismiss Muhammad Irfan Khan for just 2, but Warner kept the engine running with calculated aggression. He eventually fell in the 17th over for a commanding 86 off 50 deliveries, an innings laced with 11 fours and two big sixes, caught in the deep off Arif Yaqoob.
With a solid foundation already laid, the final overs belonged to Khushdil Shah and Mohammad Nabi.
The pair unleashed a brutal assault on the bowling attack, adding an unbeaten 70 runs in quick time.
Khushdil blazed his way to a destructive 43 not out from just 15 balls, while Nabi chipped in with a brisk 26* off 10, ensuring the Kings surged past the 230 mark.
Despite the carnage, Luke Wood emerged as Zalmi’s standout performer with the ball, finishing with exceptional figures of 2 for 19 in his four overs. Arif Yaqoob and Ali Raza grabbed a wicket each, but the rest of the bowling unit found little respite against the Kings’ relentless charge.
The emphatic win not only sealed a playoff berth for Karachi but also sent a strong message to the rest of the league.
