Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan and the United Kingdom (UK) have once again underscored their shared commitment to deepening bilateral relations, enhancing collaboration in security and law enforcement, and jointly tackling migration-related concerns during a high-level meeting between Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and British Deputy Foreign Secretary Hamish Falconer in Islamabad on Wednesday.

The meeting focused on Pakistan-UK relations and the broader regional situation. Both sides reviewed a range of matters of mutual interest, including counterterrorism cooperation, illegal migration, institutional partnerships, and capacity-building initiatives for police and law-enforcement agencies.
During the conversation, Falconer lauded Pakistan’s positive and constructive role in helping bridge understanding between the United States (US) and Iran.
He described Islamabad’s efforts as an important contribution to regional and international peace, while also appreciating Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for what he termed their significant role in advancing stability and reducing tensions.
The British deputy foreign secretary noted that Pakistan’s involvement in efforts aimed at easing friction between Washington and Tehran has strengthened the country’s image as a promoter of peace on the global stage.
Speaking on institutional development, Naqvi pointed to the success of the Upskill Project, saying the initiative had yielded encouraging outcomes and played a key role in improving the performance and capacity of Pakistani institutions.
He reiterated the government’s resolve to raise professional standards and strengthen institutional effectiveness through international cooperation.
The two sides agreed to broaden collaboration in several areas, including counterterrorism initiatives, measures to combat illegal migration, institutional strengthening, and specialized training programs for law-enforcement personnel.
They also pledged closer coordination to address the issue of fake student visas, which has increasingly become a matter of concern for authorities in both nations.
Naqvi emphasized that Pakistan is pursuing a zero-tolerance approach against illegal migration networks and human smuggling rings, stressing the government’s determination to dismantle criminal organizations that exploit vulnerable individuals for financial gain.
Referring to the regional security environment, the interior minister stated that a number of terrorist groups continue to operate from Afghan territory. He maintained that the Afghan authorities must ensure their soil is not used for activities that threaten Pakistan’s security.
Reaffirming Islamabad’s desire to further strengthen ties with London, Interior Minister Naqvi said Pakistan highly values its long-standing relationship with the UK and remains committed to expanding cooperation across various sectors for the mutual benefit of both countries.
The meeting was attended by Federal Ministers Chaudhry Salik Hussain, Ali Pervaiz Malik, Talal Chaudhry and Aoun Chaudhry, along with Interior Secretary Muhammad Khurram Agha, British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott, and senior representatives from the Federal Investigation Agency and other national law-enforcement bodies.
