California (Web Desk): Google has officially unveiled its new Android 17 operating system, marking a major upgrade to its mobile software ecosystem.
The system has initially been launched on Google’s Pixel smartphones, while several features are expected to roll out to other devices in the coming months.
According to the company, Android 17 includes advanced technologies such as Gemini Intelligence, intelligent autofill, and several other AI-powered features. These innovations were first announced during Google’s annual developer conference held in May 2026.
One of the key highlights of Android 17 is improved multitasking. While the bubble feature was previously limited to messaging apps, it has now been expanded to all applications. Users can long-press any app icon on the home screen to activate a floating bubble, allowing the app to open in a small window.
The new operating system also brings enhanced security and privacy controls. Users can now grant temporary location access instead of permanent permissions, along with improved data-sharing controls. The “Find Hub” has been upgraded with a “Mark as Lost” feature, requiring biometric authentication if a device is stolen. Google has also introduced a live threat detection system to help prevent fraud.
Gemini Intelligence plays a central role in Android 17, learning user behavior to perform tasks automatically. This agentic AI system is designed to simplify everyday tasks and improve user experience.
The update also includes improvements to Material Design, with AI now assisting in designing backgrounds, surfaces, and overall interface elements for a more modern look.
In addition, the “Chrome Auto Browse” feature will be rolled out by the end of June, enabling Gemini to assist users with tasks such as event planning, appointments, and more.
The intelligent autofill system has also been upgraded, allowing Gemini to automatically complete complex information such as passport or license numbers across apps and Chrome with a single click.
Finally, Android 17 simplifies device switching, making it easier for users to transfer data from iOS to Android using shortcuts available on the home screen.
