california (Web Desk): Meta is implementing a significant update to its Threads app, which was launched as a rival to X (formerly Twitter). According to reports, the company is currently testing the ability for users to register on Threads using their Facebook accounts instead of relying solely on Instagram.

This feature is not yet available to all users but has been mentioned on Meta’s support website. It aims to simplify the account creation process for those who do not have Instagram accounts.

By signing up through Facebook, users will be able to access features across both platforms more seamlessly, including the convenience of using a single login for Threads and Facebook.

Meta’s support page notes that creating a Threads profile with a Facebook account will link the two accounts together.

Until now, Threads accounts have been tied exclusively to Instagram, which contributed to the app’s rapid user growth initially. However, Meta is now taking steps to establish Threads as a more independent platform.

In June 2025, Meta also introduced a direct messaging feature within Threads to reduce users’ reliance on Instagram Direct Messages.
