Okara (Web Desk): Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz on Friday said that the Punjab government will award scholarships to the students of Al-Qadir University.
Addressing an event of Honhaar Scholarship Programme at the University of Okara, she said that after the court ruling in the high-profile £190 million Al-Qadir Trust case, the institution would now fall under the control of the provincial government.
She further shared that scholarships would be offered to students at the university, signaling her administration's commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in the region.
Speaking about the current political landscape, The Punjab CM called for national unity and peace.
She criticized divisive forces, emphasizing that the nation needed to come together rather than be torn apart by hatred.
Maryam condemned previous political figures for fostering unrest and claimed that young people were being manipulated, particularly in how they were incited to attack law enforcement and trust misleading social media content.
Reflecting on her family's long-standing political journey, Maryam lamented the hardships they had faced, particularly her father, Nawaz Sharif.
She reminded the audience of her father's contributions to the country, pointing out how he was removed from office over a corruption case related to a residency permit.
Maryam also discussed her own personal trials, recalling the harsh conditions during her imprisonment and contrasting it with the situation of other political figures, including Imran Khan.
She mentioned the severe conditions she endured, such as being confined with surveillance cameras in her cell and limited to a single meal each day.
The Punjab CM remarks came shortly after the court’s decision in the Al-Qadir Trust case, which resulted in the conviction of Imran Khan, who received a 14-year jail sentence, while his wife, Bushra Bibi, was sentenced to seven years.
