Islamabad / Washington (Web Desk): Pakistan’s role in efforts to ease long-standing tensions between the United States and Iran and promote peace in the Middle East has reportedly entered a decisive phase, as diplomatic engagements gain momentum.
U.S. President Donald Trump, in an unusual message posted on his Truth Social account, praised Pakistan’s leadership and expressed gratitude for its efforts in facilitating dialogue.
He specifically acknowledged Pakistan’s civil and military leadership, writing, “Thank you Pakistan and its great Prime Minister and Field Marshal, two wonderful people!!!”
Diplomatic observers view the statement as a positive development ahead of the second round of talks scheduled to take place in Islamabad on Sunday, which is expected to focus on key areas of understanding between the parties.
According to American media reports, a proposed three-page draft agreement under discussion in Islamabad includes several major points.
The United States is reportedly considering the release of around $20 billion in frozen Iranian assets, with approximately $6 billion potentially made available immediately for food and medical supplies. In return, Iran would agree to limit its stockpile of enriched uranium.
The proposed framework also suggests stricter oversight of Iran’s nuclear program, including relocating certain facilities above ground to facilitate international inspections.
Iran would be allowed to maintain only a limited nuclear research reactor for medical purposes.
Reports further indicate that Iran had initially sought $27 billion in financial relief, which was rejected by the United States, although negotiations are now said to be moving closer to a compromise around the $20 billion figure.
Iran has also reportedly shown willingness to reduce enrichment levels domestically instead of transferring all nuclear material abroad.
Analysts say that Iran’s cooperation on the Strait of Hormuz issue, combined with U.S. appreciation of Pakistan’s diplomatic role, highlights Islamabad’s growing importance as a mediator in global affairs.
The upcoming talks in Islamabad are being seen as a potentially historic turning point not only for U.S.–Iran relations but also for broader regional stability.
