Beirut (Web Desk): Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to ease tensions in the Middle East have yielded a significant breakthrough, as a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, announced by US President Donald Trump, has formally come into effect.
The development is being widely viewed at the international level as a joint diplomatic success for Islamabad and Washington.
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun welcomed the agreement, describing it as an important first step toward restoring stability in his country. Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu termed the ceasefire “a historic opportunity for peace” and directed Israeli forces to halt military operations.
The Iran-backed group Hezbollah has also agreed to adhere to the truce under certain conditions, raising hopes that the large-scale humanitarian crisis unfolding in the region may begin to ease.
Until just hours before the ceasefire took hold, intense exchanges of fire continued between Israeli forces and Hezbollah.
However, calm has now settled along both sides of the border, with international observers closely monitoring the situation.
Pakistan, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, played a proactive diplomatic role by engaging with Tehran, Washington, and Riyadh.
These coordinated efforts helped lay the groundwork for this breakthrough on the Lebanese front, signaling that Pakistan’s broader “peace mission” is beginning to deliver tangible results.
