Brussels (Web Desk): European country Luxembourg has announced its intention to officially recognize Palestine as a sovereign state, with a formal declaration expected during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly session this month.
According to international media reports, Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden stated that the humanitarian and political situation in Gaza has drastically worsened in recent months. He added that a renewed global push for a two-state solution is gaining momentum, and Luxembourg is ready to join the countries recognizing Palestine.
The Prime Minister emphasized that Luxembourg aims to be among those nations supporting Palestinian statehood at the UN platform. However, he clarified that the final decision will be made in coordination with key European partners including France, Belgium, and others.
It’s worth noting that Luxembourg is not the first to move in this direction. In recent weeks, countries such as France, the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, and Belgium have also expressed their support for recognizing Palestine, with formal announcements expected during the current UN session.
Analysts believe that if more countries join in recognizing Palestine, it could pave the way for broader international legitimacy and strengthen diplomatic efforts toward a peaceful resolution in the Middle East.
