Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former premier Imran Khan has approached Islamabad High Court (IHC) to secure bail in the cipher case.

Barrister Salman Safdar submitted the bail plea on behalf of the PTI chief.

In the petition, the lawyer maintained that the prosecution filed a malicious case against the former premier.

It mentioned that a special court, formed to hear cases under Special Secret Act, ignored irregularities and the contradictions of the prosecution.

The PTI chief's counsel maintained in the petition that the former premier was named in a politically motivated case.

On September 14, the special court rejected PTI Chairman Imran Khan and party vice chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi's rejected bail pleas in the cipher case.

On Wednesday, the special court, extended Imran Khan Shah Mahmood Qureshi's judicial remand till September 26.

Last month, the FIA registered the case against PTI chief Khan and Qureshi under the Official Secrets Act for allegedly losing and misusing the classified documents for their political gains.

The cipher case pertains to a diplomatic cable which reportedly went missing from former premier Imran Khan's possession.

The PTI alleges that it contained a threat from the United States (US) to oust Khan from power.
