Terrorists' presence in Afghanistan threatens regional peace, says EU official 

Kabul (Web Desk): The presence of militant outfits operating from Afghan territory is no longer confined to Afghanistan’s domestic security situation, it has increasingly turned into a wider regional threat impacting peace and stability across the region.

Gilles Bertrand, who serves as the European Union’s (EU) Special Representative on Afghan affairs, has backed Pakistan’s right to defend itself against terrorism originating from Afghan soil.

In an interview with Amu TV, he remarked that it is an open secret that, alongside groups referred to as Fitna al-Khawarij, several international terrorist organizations are also present inside Afghanistan.

He further stated that under such circumstances, Pakistan cannot be expected to remain passive while enduring serious acts of terrorism targeting its territory.

Bertrand also highlighted that concerns over the existence of militant networks in Afghanistan have already been raised by multiple global stakeholders, including Russia, China, the United States (US), and the EU.
