Scholars' role vital in countering extremism, strengthening national unity: Mohsin Naqvi

Islamabad (Web Desk): Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has said that the role of religious scholars is crucial in maintaining peace and order, stressing that ensuring stability during the month of Muharram is a collective responsibility of the nation.

Addressing a meeting of the National Peace Message Committee, the interior minister said the platform should promote a message of unity, brotherhood, and national cohesion across the country. He praised the committee’s performance and called for strengthening its presence and effectiveness at the district level.

Mohsin Naqvi emphasized that the entire nation must stand united to eliminate the threat of terrorism. He urged religious scholars to play their role in promoting peace and discouraging extremism in the light of the Holy Quran and Hadith.

He further stated that only messages of harmony, unity, and peace should be delivered from mosques and pulpits, adding that avoiding sectarianism is in the best interest of the country and its people.

The interior minister also said that both the Prime Minister and the Field Marshal have played an important role in ensuring peace in the country, and stressed that all segments of society must work together for lasting stability and security.
