Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan and the United Kingdom (UK) have reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strong high-level engagement and expanding bilateral cooperation to support sustainable economic growth, institutional strengthening, and wider regional stability.
The understanding was reached during a meeting in Islamabad between Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and UK Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan Hamish Falconer.
During the discussion, both sides exchanged detailed views on regional developments as well as Pakistan’s macroeconomic outlook, ongoing structural and fiscal reforms, modernization of institutions, budgetary priorities, and prospects for further deepening economic cooperation between Islamabad and London.
The finance minister outlined the government’s reform-focused economic strategy and highlighted key priorities reflected in the Federal Budget 2026–27, stressing continued efforts to preserve macroeconomic stability, sustain the ongoing recovery, push forward structural reforms, and create a more inclusive and durable growth path.
He also referred to recent regional shifts, including the easing of tensions following a recent understanding between the United States and Iran, noting that improved stability in the region would help improve conditions for investment, trade, and economic activity.
The minister also emphasized that Pakistan’s fiscal planning and economic assumptions are being framed with caution, keeping in view external vulnerabilities and geopolitical risks, including potential secondary impacts of prolonged instability.
He further briefed the visiting delegation on the government’s ongoing fiscal discipline and institutional reform agenda.
In his remarks, Hamish Falconer appreciated Pakistan’s commitment to economic reforms and acknowledged the scale and seriousness of its transformation efforts, reiterating the United Kingdom’s interest in continued collaboration in areas of mutual economic benefit.
British High Commissioner to Pakistan Jane Marriott and other officials from the British High Commission along with representatives of Pakistan’s Ministry of Finance were also present during the meeting.
