Islamabad (Web Desk): Pakistan and Portugal have agreed to further strengthen their bilateral partnership by expanding cooperation in a wide range of fields, including political engagement, trade, investment, labour mobility, agriculture, renewable energy, information technology, education, tourism, cultural exchanges, and people-to-people links.
The understanding was reached during the fourth round of Pakistan–Portugal Bilateral Political Consultations, where officials from both countries reviewed the overall state of bilateral relations and explored fresh opportunities to deepen cooperation.
The discussions also highlighted the potential for stronger business-to-business ties, enhanced port connectivity, and joint initiatives in olive cultivation and processing.
The Pakistani delegation was led by Ambassador Ayesha Ali, Additional Secretary (Europe) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, while Ambassador Helena Malcata, Director-General for Foreign Policy at Portugal's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, headed the Portuguese side.
During the talks, both delegations exchanged views on key regional and international developments and expressed satisfaction over the close coordination between Pakistan and Portugal at various multilateral forums.
As part of the visit, the Portuguese delegation also held a meeting with Pakistan's Foreign Secretary, where both sides discussed bilateral cooperation along with regional and global issues of shared interest.
According to a statement issued by the Foreign Office (FO), the consultations were conducted in a friendly and constructive environment. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining regular political dialogue and broadening cooperation in areas that offer mutual benefit.
They also agreed that the next round of Bilateral Political Consultations will take place in Lisbon on dates to be decided through mutual consultation.
